My Top 5 Favourite Albums

My script is so cool, all I have to do to write a post is make a simple html file. But anyways, in this article I'm going to make a top 5 personal favourite music albums.

These are like my favourite albums of all time, not just albums I somewhat like.

So anyways this it:

Nightfall, by Candlemass

This one I found somewhat recently and it quickly became my favourite Candlemass album and one of my favourite albums of all time, it definitely goes into my top 5.

I always liked Candlemass's sound, they have a dark aesthetic that I find really cool. This is the album that in my personal opinion really defines their sound. I think the biggest change to the last albums was the vocalist Messiah Marcolin. From all the vocalists this one is my favourite, his singing is very clean and melodic, I would even say that he has the voice of an angel, which contrasts well with the distorted guitars and makes the song feel a lot more emotional and deep. Even in the mix the vocalist clearly got a lot louder compared to past albums.

The drums also changed not just in who plays them (Jan Lindh). I feel like in past albums the drums were faster while in this album drums are slower, louder, "bassier" and with tons of reverb.

favourite track: Samarithan

This is where the album really shines. The song describes a story where the "main character" helps a dying poor man by giving him, food and shelter. 5 years later when this character was dying 3 angles came and gave him salvation.

These lyrics, combined with this vocalist and this mixing makes for a song that is truly beautiful, THIS is what makes this album so great, and in my opinion, makes Candlemass better than Black Sabbath.

The Sound of Perseverance, by Death

Death's last album.

This one is filled with aggression, speed and violence. Each song is absolutely filled with impressive performances from all of the musicians involved. The drums are very fast and make the use of lots of different sounds to make each note from the guitars and bass to feel a lot heavier. The bass on this one is very melodic sometimes reminds me of a TOOL song, it has a very distinguished sound. The guitars make the use of many different sound in many parts of the songs like the scratching sound at the end of "Bite the pain" and the solo of "Spirit Crusher". All of the songs also have many different parts inside them they slow down and go faster multiple times and making heavy use of off-beats (especially with the drums).

Another great thing about this album is the intros, these intros alone stay in my head for hours.

favourite track: Spirit Crusher

The intro just can't get out of my head. Not just the intro, the chorus too where chuck screams "spirit crusher" lol. I might not be the greatest writer so go listen to the song for yourself.

But anyways, the lyrics aren't as explicit as the Candlemass one so I will use this opportunity to write an analyses. The lyrics seem to be about other people hurting your feelings and putting you down, maybe I'm a genius but a song called "Spirit Crusher" can't really be about anything else. I mean "Human at sight, Monster at heart" clearly means humans are (or can be) evil and the bridge "Speaking in killing words The vicious kinds that crush and kill" refers exactly to how words crush and kill your soul.

The Return of The Space Cowboy, by Jamiroquai

Peak

Yes, I don't always listen to metal

The thing that really really makes this album stuck to me is probably the bass and the drums, like, all of these songs are COOL, all of these songs are very upbeat, very fun to listen to.

favourite track: Space Cowboy

I don't think I need to try to explain the lyrics, its a song about a space cowboy.

Very soothing song and energetic at the same time, feels weird to listen to it in a way, its like the song really is an "interplanetary good vibes zone".

I don't really know what else to say about this song, so just listen to it:

Hybrid Theory, by Linkin Park

Weirdly enough I don't listen to this track very often, but I used to listen to this almost everyday back in high school (2 years ago). This was the album that got me to start downloading albums whole, I was kind of used to the "pick a random track" model from spotify, where instead of looking up artists and albums, people just pick single tracks and consoom music. This was the album that made me appreciate albums.

Very energetic album overall, 10/10

When I found out Chester Bennington had past away I was chocked of how spotify alienates people by making you not care a single shit about the artist. His death was really tragic we not only lost a great vocalists, this guy was a father, of 6 children.

favourite track: A Place for My Head

I remember this being my favourite song of all time and at the same time not knowing what a "Linkin Park" was. Of course I blame spotify for that.

My favourite part is the last bridge with Chester screaming "You try to take the best of me, go away" maybe that's because I used to listen to it so much on the bus every time I left school, call it nostalgia or whatever, leaving school was really the best part of school.

Masters of Really, by Black Sabbath

This is my favourite Sabbath album. And what I consider the standard for a metal album.

I think every metal album needs variety, it needs some fast songs, some slow songs, some atmospheric stuff. Of course every band has its own style, its not like I want every band to be Black Sabbath, but I do think even the most badass death metal band should have some slower stuff in their albums, some variety. What makes me regularly comeback to this album is just how it feels like a ride, especially that transition between "Children of the Grave", "Orchid" and "Lords of this World".

favourite track: Into the Void

After 5 minutes of listen to "solitude" the album closes with this banger of a song. The intro riff might just be one of my favourite riffs of all time.

The first time I listened to this song was actually a cover by Exhorder, thanks spotify! I remember listening to this album whole for the first time and recognizing the riff I instantly knew this was the original, I mean this is a pretty old album, but not only that the song felt a lot better when played by Black Sabbath.

Final thoughts

So yeah, I might not be the greatest writer, but the list is still the same. I absolutely love these albums.

The list is not in any particular order either.

I hope you like my list and consider subscribing
