My Favourite Software (and why)
Hello reader, this is going to be a list of my favourite software, I use these everyday or have used them in the past.
Neovim
I only started writing this article to talk about Neovim.
Neovim is a fast, modern text editor with support for plugins, GUIs and a Lua configuration (here's mine).
Why nvim is the best text editor
It just is, this shit consumes less than 100mb, is extremely fast and its extensible to the point that you can use this for everything writing related:
- school articles - yes (with LaTeX)
- coding - yes (supports LSPs and lots of plugins)
- take notes - yes (it opens almost instantly and provides infinitely more features than notepad)
This only has 3 entries because I can't think of any other reason to use a text editor. Anyways, this is the best text editor.
Reasons against neovim
Lets be real...
none
Gentoo Linux
By far my favourite Linux distribution. I've been using it for a few months now, I will probably never go back to Arch. At this point I've even made some contributions to the wiki and wrote an article for college (using neovim).
Why use Gentoo
Many of you "people" would rather use some shitty OS like fedora or windows (biggest honeypot ever), but Gentoo might be the perfect distro for you.
Gentoo installs software by compiling it, this is not just a theoretical advantage, Gentoo provides the tools to customize every package installation if that's your wish to do so, however you are not obligated to customize every single package, this is something I've seen being said a lot online, IT'S NOT TRUE!!! You only customize and apply flags to packages you want. Also, modern Gentoo Linux has a binary repository which greatly speeds the process of installing software in cases where you don't want or need flags.
Why not use Gentoo
- If you are stupid (you have to know how to read)
- If your computer is shit (it might work, but installing will take ages)
suckless
Anything suckless does is cool.
First time I used DWM it I didn't really like it, but I never really forgot about it, I then tried sway, but it wasn't the same, wayland just kinda sucks. My mouse cursors kept changing everytime, it was consuming too much ram too and it just didn't feel like DWM. So I tried it (DWM) again, and have been using it since (a few months).
Check out my suckless builds here.
Why use suckless software
- Extremly minimal
- Very stable
- Very Portable
Why not use suckless
If you are stupid
Conclusion
I like neovim
